For Immediate Release:

You know what they say—you can’t choose your family. Insidious superstitions, catastrophic comedy, picturesque ballet, and a surreal film noir aesthetic are plaited into the mane of this melodrama about inheritance inspired by the playwright’s own ancestors.

Beautiful Indifference stars Helen Hayes Award Nominee Michael Burgos as Duke DuLac; DC Fringe Best Drama Winner Bertem Demirtas as Wayne René; Peter Dasher as Max DuLac; Dyllan Hutchison as Alice René; Shannon Rodgers as Sophie DuLac-René; Kai Yoffe as Adam Vincent; and April E. Brassard as Maxine DuLac. Award-Winning Sound Designer Elisabeth Dupuy underscores the scene with her auditory artistry.

This play is made possible because of the Purks Faculty Enrichment Grant at the College of Visual and Performing Arts at GMU, which April received this past academic year. This production is a collaborative effort between Professor April and alumni and students of GMU. Her mission is to speak for the silenced, catalyze laughter, turn trauma into drama, and inspire the next generation of artists.

Director Nathan Tilley graduated Magna Cum Laude from the School of Theater at George Mason University with a BFA in Theatre Performance. Nathan is a playwright, performer, and has worked as dramaturg and director for the past four years. This past year, Nathan was the Wardrobe Supervisor for Synetic Theater during their production of Romeo & Juliet, and Remount Costume Designer for their Teen Production. He has also worked as a Teaching Artist with Acting For Young People. Nathan’s mission is to use art as a medium to explore the horrors of the world to comprehend, advance, and heal it.

Playwright April E. Brassard is an award-winning TV and screenwriter, playwright, producer, and professor from Washington, DC. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the School of Theater at GMU, then earned her MFA in Dramatic Writing from the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU. April worked in Hollywood at Warner Bros., ABC, and CBS Studios, developing four original television series, and penning and producing a 6-time internationally-awarded short film. Ten of April's plays have been produced in the DC area, including a critically-acclaimed production at Capital Fringe. For the past four years, she has worked as a professor at GMU, and is Co-Director of their festival of new plays, THE ORIGINALS!
